Sea Otters Gambolling in the Wild Wild Surf

Promotional animated trailer commissioned by Vintage Originals, an imprint of Random House Books. The idea was to design an animated trailer to be used within a micro-site to promote an upcoming release via email, web and traditional media. Various incidents from the book were used as inspiration for a simple sixty second promo, featuring a cartoon character animated against a variety of rendered 3D backdrops and environments.

I made a pencil sketch as a starting point to build up the character, first in vector form and then within Flash, breaking up the character into a variety of nested symbols to allow for basic animation of the various parts of its body and face. Alternative heads, hands etc. were also created to be used in specific scenes.
